Combine with milk fresh per drink (no concentrate).
Double-dose for iced (4g, not 2g).
Most chain matcha skips most of these steps. Specialty matcha at Café Mia keeps every step.

Frequently asked questions
What grade of matcha does Café Mia use?
Ceremonial-grade only, every matcha drink. We don't keep culinary-grade at all.
How much does a matcha latte cost at Café Mia?
$5.50 for a standard hot or iced matcha latte (4g ceremonial-grade, double the industry standard). $4.00 for a matcha shot (2g in 2oz hot water, no milk, the connoisseur's order). Seasonal specialty matcha drinks (strawberry, lavender-honey, rose) run $6.50. All plant milks free.
Do you offer dairy-free matcha?
Yes, oat, almond, and coconut milk are all available with no surcharge. Oat milk is what most customers pick for iced matcha because it lets the matcha's natural sweetness lead without competing with the tea. We also offer plain water for matcha shots if you want the tea unaccompanied.
Can I buy matcha to take home?
Yes, we sell 30g tins of our ceremonial-grade matcha. Stock varies; ask at the counter.
What's the most popular matcha drink?
The iced matcha latte with oat milk is our top seller, by a significant margin.
Every cafe serves "matcha." Very few do it well. Here are the specific choices that separate our program from most other Bushwick and Brooklyn cafes:
Ceremonial-grade only. First-harvest tea leaves, shade-grown for weeks before picking, stone-ground to a fine powder. Culinary-grade matcha (which most chains and some indie cafes use in lattes) is bitter, dusty, and cheap. We don't stock it.
Double the standard dose (4g, not 2g). Most cafes use 2g of matcha per drink — enough for a green color but not a real matcha flavor. Our 4g pours let the matcha lead through milk and ice.
Whisked fresh per order. No pre-mixed matcha concentrate held in squeeze bottles. Every drink gets sifted powder, 175°F water, and 25 seconds of chasen whisking.
Fresh tin rotation. Matcha oxidizes within 2–3 weeks of opening. We rotate tins often to keep flavor bright.
Free plant milk. Oat, almond, or coconut — no upcharge. Oat is what most matcha regulars pick because it doesn't compete with the tea.
Matcha at home
If you want to make matcha at home to our standard, this is what you need:
Ceremonial-grade matcha — 30g tin, $50–$65. We sell tins at the counter.
Bamboo whisk (chasen) — $15–$25. Necessary for texture; a regular whisk won't foam properly.
Fine mesh sifter — $5. Sifting is mandatory; unsifted matcha clumps.
Kettle with temperature control — optional but ideal. Boiling water scalds matcha; 175°F is right.
Ask us at the counter for a starter kit, we can sell you the matcha, whisk, and sifter together with a one-page brewing guide.
