Bushwick's food scene isn't polished, it's opinionated, small-scale, and mostly independently owned. If you're comparing it to Williamsburg or Park Slope, the biggest difference is that Bushwick still rewards discovery. You'll find spots you'd never see in a "best of Brooklyn" listicle.
Getting around Bushwick
The neighborhood is walkable, well-served by transit, and increasingly bikeable:
J/M/Z line: Kosciuszko St and Halsey St stops serve central Bushwick. Two-minute walk from either to Café Mia's area.
L line: Jefferson Ave and DeKalb Ave serve the western edge. 10-minute walk to Café Mia from Jefferson.
M line (west): Central Ave and Myrtle-Wyckoff serve the Ridgewood border.
Bike: Broadway has a protected bike lane running through the neighborhood. Citi Bike docks are plentiful.
Walk: Bushwick is flat and grid-organized. A cross-neighborhood walk from Bed-Stuy border to Ridgewood border takes about 30 minutes.
Car: Free street parking is easier here than in Williamsburg. Alt-side rules on weekdays.
