Pink Matcha Dragonfruit — vibrant, naturally sweet, made with real dragonfruit.

How we make it

  1. Fresh pink dragonfruit blended into a smooth puree (no syrup, no artificial coloring).
  2. Poured over large-cube ice as the base layer.
  3. 4g of A-Grade Uji matcha whisked with hot water using a bamboo chasen for 25 seconds.
  4. Combined with cold oat milk, then poured slowly over the dragonfruit base to create the two-layer presentation.

Total prep: 3 minutes. Every drink is made per order, this isn't pre-batched or dispensed from a bottle. The pink stays vibrant, the green stays vivid, and the flavors integrate as you drink.

What it tastes like

Layered: sip first through the top matcha layer for pure Uji flavor, then mix and taste the dragonfruit blending in. Fully mixed: tropical fruit meets savory Japanese matcha, imagine kiwi-pear brightness with a green-tea bass note. Naturally sweet from the dragonfruit; no added sugar needed. Most customers who try it order it a second time.

The health profile

This is one of the most antioxidant-dense drinks on our menu. Matcha's EGCG catechins plus dragonfruit's betacyanins and polyphenols. Both are anti-inflammatory. Matcha's L-theanine gives calm sustained alertness without a coffee crash. Dragonfruit adds fiber and vitamin C. All at $7.00 for a drink that's also naturally beautiful.

What pairs with it

Best paired with something savory rather than sweet, the drink is already fruit-forward. Our recommendations:

How it compares to strawberry matcha

Strawberry matcha (our spring rotation) is sweeter, more familiar, and mixes to a soft pink-green. Pink Matcha Dragonfruit is more tropical, holds a more vivid pink, and integrates more cleanly with the Uji matcha's umami depth. Both are seasonal specialties; both use real fruit; both are $6.50–$7.00. Strawberry runs March–May; Pink Matcha Dragonfruit is year-round.

Frequently asked

What is Pink Matcha Dragonfruit?

Pink Matcha Dragonfruit is a two-layer specialty drink at Café Mia: a base of real dragonfruit puree (pink, tropical, mildly sweet) with a top layer of whisked A-Grade Uji matcha. The visual is vivid pink-into-green; the flavor is tropical fruit meeting savory matcha. $7.00 for 16oz iced.

What does dragonfruit taste like in matcha?

Dragonfruit's flavor is mild and clean, imagine a cross between kiwi and pear, with a subtle floral note. It doesn't overpower matcha the way strawberry or mango would. The combination works because dragonfruit adds fruity brightness and vivid color without hiding the matcha underneath.

Is Pink Matcha Dragonfruit real dragonfruit or just syrup?

Real dragonfruit puree, no syrup, no artificial coloring. The vivid pink is from actual pink dragonfruit, one of nature's most naturally vibrant fruits. Cafes that use syrup usually list 'dragonfruit-flavored' on the menu; we specifically use real fruit because syrup versions taste artificial and Uji matcha deserves better.

What's the antioxidant profile?

Both matcha and dragonfruit are exceptionally high in antioxidants, matcha's catechins (particularly EGCG) plus dragonfruit's betacyanins and polyphenols. This is one of the highest-antioxidant beverages we serve, without any of the added sugar of a smoothie. Naturally sweet from the fruit; no syrup needed.

Does it stay layered or mix together?

It's served as a two-layer presentation, pink dragonfruit base, green matcha top, but as you drink it through a straw, the two layers gradually mix into a green-pink swirl. Both presentations are photogenic; the mixed version is where the flavors fully integrate.

Can I get it hot?

It's specifically an iced drink because the dragonfruit puree needs the cold to hold its structure and color. Hot dragonfruit turns muddy and loses its brightness. If you want hot matcha, order our standard hot matcha latte and a dragonfruit iced tea on the side.

Come taste the matcha we've been talking about.
